Shoryudo Highway Bus Ticket

The Shoryudo Highway Bus Ticket is a little known, little used bus pass for central Japan, allowing for 3 or 5 days of unlimited travel on the Meitetsu bus network. The 3 day bus allows access to the main cities of Kanazawa, Shirakawa-go, Takayama and Nagoya. The 5 days additionally includes wider access to cities such as Matsumoto, Gokayama and Hiraya (which has connections to Kamikochi). A great way for budget travellers to explore the region.

What does it cost?

3 days (northern area only): 7000 yen (around $66)

5 days: 14000 yen (around $133)

When can I use it?

Anytime.

Is it worth it?

A highway bus from Nagoya to Takayama will be at least 4000 yen, so if you travel to a few locations you will save loads of money.

What are the rules?

  • Can only be used on Meitestu buses.
  • Cannot be used on any trains or trams.
  • Valid for 3 or 5 consecutive days.

How do I use it?

Once you have the pass, reservations (if required) are made at the ticket offices in any of the pass’s main stops (see map below). Just show your pass and reservation to the bus driver.
