Tsukiji Fish Market

Tsukiji Fish Market (築地市場) is the most famous fish market in fish crazy Japan.  Watch the auctions, buy some fresh caught that day and try one of the numerous sushi restaurants.  The market is also an exciting area for tourists take photos of the workers on their funny little vehicles, plus hundreds of types of fish and other produce.

Budget travel tips

  • Visitors can watch the heated tuna auctions from 5:00 am to 6:15 am.  You should arrive early as there are a limited number of tickets.   Apply at the Fish Information Center (shown on the map below)

  • Don’t bring any luggage or large bags with you, as the market is very crowded.
  • It is advised not to enter the market before 9 AM as this is the main business time.

How to get there

From Shinjuku station, take the Oedo Line (pink metro line) to Tsukiji Shijo Station (25 mins, 340 yen).

From Tokyo station, take the Yamanote line (green JR line) to Hamamatsucho, then transfer to Daimon station.  From there take the Oedo Line (pink metro line) to Tsukiji Shijo Station (16 mins, 320 yen).
